Track Information

Vanguard Security Conference 2009

Governance, Risk and Auditing for Compliance (Audit)-Compliance with the multitude of business, regulatory and legal requirements does not eliminate risk. In other words, there is no such thing as a risk-free IT environment. This track highlights a variety of audit, self-assessment practices and outstanding issues include privacy, regulatory requirements and policies, as well as the continued proliferation of spam, viruses and fraud. IT security practitioners will gain an in-depth understanding of what is going on, what you need to do and how it will affect you both professionally and personally.

Crypto on System z®-The need for an encompassing approach to data security is the perfect IT storm: industry standards initiatives, legislative requirements and business needs. Cryptography is an integral part of your solution architecture. The System z Crypto track provides soup to nuts descriptions of the System z technologies that you can use right now to protect your information assets.

Network Risks, Threats and Solutions-This track will show you how to identify network threats and attacks, the risks to your company or organization, and solutions to minimize your risks. You will also learn how to respond to incidents if and when they occur.

Basic RACF Administration-This track is designed to provide a full week of RACF training for Security Administrators, Auditors and Systems Programmers new to RACF. Vanguard’s professional instructors present the entire track that starts with a RACF overview and goes through Group, User, Dataset, and General Resource profile administration. Also covered are the RACF System-wide Options and a topic on RACF Logging and Reporting. Perhaps the most powerful aspect of the track is the hands-on lab that is available to all attendees to reinforce the concepts presented during the breakout sessions. The lab environment allows the attendee to choose to complete the assignment using either RACF commands and/or Vanguard Administrator™. This is a unique feature not found in any conference setting. The track is literally a basic RACF course presented Monday morning through Thursday noon.

Advanced RACF Administration-This track provides training for Security Administrators with a working knowledge of RACF. Topics are presented on critical OS/390® and z/OS® functions and interfaces with components such as CICS®, DB2®, RRSF, and MQ Series. Other sessions enable Security Administrators to understand digital certificates, utilize the OS/390 and z/OS cryptographic facilities, and make the best use of RACF®.

Basic RACF Technical-This track focuses on the hottest topics necessary for an OS/390® and z/OS® techie to survive in the rapidly changing world of security. With so many emerging technical issues being addressed in organizations today, many new sessions have been added that focus on the latest enhancements to OS/390 and z/OS Security Server. The people who design and write the code, IBM® Developers, will present many of these sessions. If you’re a technician, systems programmer, systems analyst or consultant, you won’t want to miss these exciting technical sessions.

Advanced RACF Technical-This track focuses on the hottest topics for OS/390® and z/OS® security features for the practitioner with five or more years in the security field.

Vanguard Tools and Techniques-This track is intended to increase the effectiveness of the users of Vanguard software products. It is a proven fact that 80% of the Vanguard product users utilize only about 20% of the capability of the products they possess. This track will significantly increase that utilization percentage and demonstrate the unknown powers of each of the products. Online access to the products by Vanguard’s professional instructors will reinforce the concepts presented in the breakout sessions. If you use any of the Vanguard products, you will find sessions of interest to you in this track.
