Network Services

The Internet has created a brave new world of information sharing and business connectivity. Local (LAN) and Wide Area Networks (WAN) allow employees to share critical information across high-speed links. Remote access, VPNs, and extranets connect business partners and telecommuters. All of these technological advances have created a new openness that promotes the exchange of digital information and digital assets.
This information openness, however, has also created numerous vulnerabilities and liabilities. The dizzying array of connectivity alternatives and numerous entry points that make information interchange possible, also provide ample opportunity for intrusion, theft, and sabotage.
Vanguard Integrity Professionals' security expertise and services offerings extend beyond the mainframe to encompass a number of Network and Internet systems and applications. We offer four security assessment packages that have been specifically tailored to provide a solution for every security and budget need- from the small business to the Fortune 500. These assessments are structured to provide your company with a comprehensive security architectural review, controlled penetration testing, internal and external vulnerability assessment, and findings analysis. Our experts can also work with your organization to review and design a number of security strategies that are best suited to your individual business needs.
Vanguard Security Assessment
Vanguard's core Internet and Network security offering. The Comfort Analysis is an entry level, cost-effective way to quickly evaluate your perimeter security.
The package includes:
- Security Architecture and Controls Review (Network)
- Security Architecture and Controls Review (Internet – includes Firewall and DMZ)
- Controlled Penetration Test (Level 1)
- External and Internal Vulnerability Assessment (Deliverable)
- Findings Analysis and Deliverable Preparation
- Collaborative Review
The Controlled Penetration Test includes perimeter testing of Internet servers and connections, a single firewall, a single POP3 mail system, and the DMZ.
This is the perfect package for small to medium businesses, or Fortune 500 companies seeking a quick perimeter sweep and security architecture evaluation. A Security Comfort Analysis typically takes two to four weeks.
Vanguard Intrusion Protection
Unfortunately, many companies mistakenly believe that unauthorized network access comes primarily from external sources. In reality, the majority of corporate security threats stem from internal sources, such as users accessing confidential data. Despite best efforts to secure the network, stealth entry points and 'backdoors' almost always exist. Firewalls may protect you from people on the outside, however they do not protect against attacks from within the company.
Vanguard Security Architects work with a variety of Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), including the Cisco NetRanger. Implementation of IDS provides a means to detect, prevent, and react to unauthorized network activity. The Enforcer Intrusion package includes:
- IDS Product Selection
- IDS Design, Configuration and Implementation
- Knowledge Transfer
Application Security
Vanguard’s Application Security package is focused on ensuring that in-house, custom-developed software applications do not expose the company to undue risk. The application security assessment tests for potential vulnerabilities such as buffer overflows, denial of service, user authentication errors, improper encryption and invalid data parsing. The assessment can include:
- Application Design
- Application Architecture
- Secure Implementation
- Attack Simulation
- Web Servers and Applications
- E-Mail Servers and Applications
- Database Servers and Applications
- Wireless Applications
Wireless Security
Ever hear of War Driving? This is the 21st century version of War Dialing (dialing phone number after phone number in an attempt to find modems). Wireless access points provide intruders ample opportunity to enter your network without ever setting foot on your property. Vanguard’s wireless security offering couples a wireless security assessment with a controlled penetration test of your wireless networks. The package includes:
- Security Architecture and Controls Review (Wireless)
- Controlled Penetration Test
- External and Internal Vulnerability Assessment (Deliverable)
- Findings Analysis and Deliverable Preparation
- Collaborative Review
