Ronn Bailey Speech at the United Nations - 2003

On the second anniversary of 9/11, Ronn H. Bailey, Founder, CEO & CTO of Vanguard Integrity Professionals was a Special Keynote Speaker at the Annual InfoSec 2003 Meeting for UN Ambassadors, Ministers, Diplomats, Government and IT Business Executives. Mr. Bailey addressed a distinguished audience in prestigious Conference Room #4 at the United Nations Building in New York City.
Mr. Bailey's speech regarding information security was powerful, and exceptionally relevant given the significance of the date. He explained that protecting cyberspace, as it pertains to our critical information infrastructure, is usually focused on PCs, network servers & devices, the Internet, and even pervasive computing devices such as Palm pilots and cell phones. He stressed that the exclusion of very large systems known as mainframes where most of the world's critical data resides poses a serious threat to every nation's security.
"It is my opinion that we are in imminent danger of a major cyber attack against our critical infrastructure" Ronn stated with genuine passion and the presence of an experienced statesman. He continued, "70-80% of the world's critical data and 85% of the world's critical transactions reside on mainframe systems. It is imperative that we protect these systems. The technology to protect these systems is available to us, right now, it is time for all of us to take action. For years we have focused on protection against Bullets & Bombs. Our focus now must turn to Bits & Bytes".
Immediately following his presentation Mr. Bailey remained on the dais to take part of an expert panel discussion along with three other participants in the conference. At the completion of the panel discussion, Ronn was met with a sincere round of applause then immediately surrounded by diplomats and members of the media, all of whom were interested in Ronn's salient comments.
It was a truly memorable experience to take part in a world-class conference at a world-class venue like the United Nations. Ronn admits to being humbled at the opportunity to be in New York City, addressing such a prestigious audience, at the United Nations, on a day with so much meaning.
