VCM for IBM i Installation / Update
The VCM for IBM i product and updates is installed from optical media (or .bin/.iso virtual media) using the LODRUN command. The product configuration is in the form of inquiry break messages with default answers. Pressing ENTER through the inquiry message will always take the default setting. The last step of the installation process starts the product in the Baseline Selection Screen.
Categories and Checks
After validation of your session user input file, VCM enters its main product area from where CIS Benchmark audits are launched and managed, the results are viewed and reported on. An individual audit is referenced throughout this and other Vanguard Compliance Manager documents as a “check”. Similar to how the CIS Benchmark audits are grouped by chapter, sometimes by section and by security level within their documentation, VCM checks are grouped by the version and release of IBM i Operating System, by VCM “baseline” and by “category”. In fact, the ID number assigned to a check (a.k.a. the “Check ID”) is comprised of the chapter, section and security level numbers under which the title was found in the CIS Benchmark document.
This chapter describes the command line options, available functions and navigation of the VCM category and check menus under a selected baseline.
